McGill Reimagined
McGill Reimagined in a 3D environment is a tribute to one of the most iconic and recognisable skateboard graphics of all time. It is paying homage to the original artist "Vernon Courtlandt Johnson". In 1984, VCJ created the snake coiled around a skull image for Pro Skater Mike McGill, under the art direction of the Powell Peralta Company. VCJ's signature art style became the prime visual language for skateboarders of that era. It was a powerful tool used as vocabulary to create a dialogue between the Powell Peralta Skateboard Company and their cult-like fan base. The initial concept was not replicating but instead capturing and playing reference to critical components in bringing forth an image relatable to the original. The scene and the subject itself are reactive to a configuration of textures, studio lighting, and an arrangement of reflective hues, intentionally placed to set off a kaleidoscopic set of colours to emulate the classic original. Although many colourways have been introduced since its first inception, the timeless combination of Yellow, Green and Red was the focal point of execution for this piece.
